Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is seeking a PennDOT CDL Operator to support highway maintenance across the region. You’ll operate trucks and loaders, ensure CDL compliance, and perform flagging duties to keep traffic moving safely.

The role includes manual labor, routine equipment maintenance, and strict adherence to safety procedures. Travel and overtime are required; telework is not an option. This is a full-time opportunity with a starting salary of $45,888.00 per year.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee program or CDL Training School or equivalent.
• Active Pennsylvania Department of Transportation certification required during probation.
• Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate required.
• Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
• Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during probation and maintained thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and other highway maintenance equipment.
• Maintain CDL credentials and complete equipment checks daily.
• Perform flagging duties to support safe traffic movement.
• Use hand and power tools to clear brush, clean culverts, repair guiderails, and related tasks.
• Perform field adjustments, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Follow safety procedures, identify hazards, and report injuries or near misses.
