Job summary

GFL Environmental Services is seeking a CDL B driver responsible for transporting, loading, unloading, and securely handling liquid and solid materials at customer sites across Michigan. The role requires safe operation of hydrovac and sewer truck units and adherence to applicable regulations.

Vehicle inspections, accurate documentation, and effective communication with customers are essential. Occasional out-of-town work and overtime may be required, with participation in a broader

Qualifications

• Valid CDL B with clean driving record.
• Tanker endorsement preferred; hazmat preferred.
• Must be able to drive manual transmissions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Local work with some occasional out-of-town work.
• Overtime as required.

Responsibilities

• Operate hydrovac trucks and sewer cleaning combo unit trucks.
• Loading and unloading of trucks.
• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation and safety practices.
• Familiarity with government documents such as manifests.
• Perform trip inspections on equipment and loads.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions and verify alignment.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, or violations.
• Maintain driver logs, bills of lading, and manifests.
• Communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.
• Ensure debris from loading/unloading is cleaned up.
• Train others as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

This driver will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid and solid hazardous and non-hazardous materials from various customer sites. Will be required to load and unload trucks. This representative will also have the ability to operate a variety of truck and equipment including Combo Sewer Jetter trucks, box trucks, and any other equipment that fits their license on site if necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate hydrovac trucks and sewer cleaning combo unit trucks.
• Loading and unloading of trucks
• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.
• Familiarity and experience working with government documents such as manifests.
• Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
• Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
• Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests etc. by manual or electronic means.
• Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written form.
• Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up.
• Train others when required.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

• Valid CDL B with clean driving record.
• Must have tanker endorsement, hazmat preferred.
• Must be able to drive manual transmissions.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 50 lbs required.
• Local work and some occasional out of town work.
• Overtime as required.
