Job summary

US 1 Shorthaul is hiring a CDL Local Yard Jockey for the Baytown, TX area. The role is part-time and hourly, with overnight shift options and weekly pay.

Primary duties include moving trailers, drop and hook, yard audits, and thorough pre/post-trip inspections, while complying with safety rules and using the Yard Management System (YMS). Qualified candidates should have related trailer experience, a CDL if possible, and the ability to work in a fast-paced yard environment.

Qualifications

• Experience backing 48' to 53' trailers.
• Minimum 12 months of over-the-road or trailer spotting in the last 3 years.
• Must pass pre-hire background and drug test.
• Class A CDL (preferred).

About US 1 Shorthaul's Yard Jockey (Switcher) Position:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Correctly move trailers in and out of dock with yard goats
• Responsible for drop and hook
• Accurately perform yard audits at end of shift
• Proper pre- and post-trip inspections and submitting reports indicating truck conditions
• Adhere to guidelines of safety-sensitive functions pertaining to job responsibilities within yard
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Possess a team-player attitude
• Ability to read, understand, and demonstrate safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Understanding and communicating in the English language is a requirement
• Ability to request and complete trailer moves in the Yard Management System (YMS)

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience backing 48' to 53' trailers
