Role Description

The CDL Instructor is a part-time, on-site role located in Laurinburg, NC. This position is responsible for delivering classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to students preparing for their Commercial Driver’s License, following college, state, and federal guidelines. Day-to-day responsibilities include teaching safety procedures, vehicle inspection, basic and advanced driving skills, and regulatory compliance; preparing lesson plans; and maintaining accurate training and performance records. The CDL Instructor will evaluate student progress, provide constructive feedback, and ensure all training meets industry standards and program requirements. The role also involves coordinating use of training vehicles and equipment, supporting student readiness for CDL exams, and contributing to a positive, learning-centered environment.

Qualifications

• Possess strong instructional and coaching skills, including the ability to explain complex driving concepts clearly and adapt teaching methods to diverse learners.
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of commercial driving practices, DOT regulations, safety protocols, and vehicle inspection procedures.
• Exhibit effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and community partners.
• Maintain solid organizational and recordkeeping abilities to track student attendance, performance, and compliance with program standards.
• Hold a valid Class A or B CDL with a clean driving record and relevant professional driving experience.
• Previous experience as an instructor, trainer, or mentor in commercial driving or a related field is highly beneficial.
• Ability to work on-site in Laurinburg, NC, including occasional evening or weekend hours as program needs require.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success in a community college setting; familiarity with adult and workforce education is a plus.
