Job description

We are not looking for someone who can simply drive a truck or help students pass a CDL test. We are looking for someone who can teach, coach, mentor, and hold people accountable while treating them with respect. Our instructors are responsible for developing safe, competent drivers—not just CDL holders.

Position Summary

We seek a knowledgeable, safety-focused, motivated CDL Class A Instructor who understands our mission goes beyond simply helping students obtain their Commercial Driver’s License. Our goal is to develop safe, skilled, professional drivers who understand the responsibilities of operating a commercial motor vehicle and are prepared for success in the trucking industry.

The ideal candidate is a coach first, instructor second—This individual must be patient, approachable, and willing to work with students who have different learning styles, experience levels, and challenges while maintaining consistent standards.

Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Driver Development
  • Deliver classroom, yard, and behind-the-wheel instruction in accordance with the established CDL Class A curriculum per DOT and FMCSA.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the curriculum and the ability to teach its content accurately, consistently, and effectively.
  • Teach students the knowledge and practical skills necessary to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely and professionally.
  • Provide comprehensive instruction on pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, including identifying defects and understanding when a vehicle is not safe to operate.
  • Teach trip planning, route selection, hours-of-service requirements, hours-of-service recordkeeping, vehicle safety, and other applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements.
  • Develop students’ skills in vehicle control, backing maneuvers, shifting, road awareness, hazard recognition, and defensive driving.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs without compromising safety or training standards.
Coaching, Mentorship, and Accountability

The ideal candidate leads by example, treats every student with respect, adapts to different learning styles, provides constructive feedback, and holds students accountable for their performance, professionalism, and progress. This individual must be proficient in the CDL curriculum, maintain high safety standards, and balance patience and encouragement with clear expectations. We are looking for someone who takes pride in coaching and developing competent, confident drivers who are prepared for the real‑world responsibilities of the trucking industry—not just earning a CDL.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Valid CDL Class A instructor license with a driving record that meets company and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience operating commercial motor vehicles safely and professionally.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDL Class A training requirements, vehicle inspections, safe driving practices, and applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate commercial vehicle operation, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, trip planning, and defensive driving effectively.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback, manage student performance, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Patience, sound judgment, professionalism, and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
