Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to operate a tractor-mounted rotary ditching machine, backhoe, motor grader and dump trucks for roadside drainage and winter operations. You will assist with safety practices, flagging, traffic control, and coordinating work zones per SCDOT manuals.

The role requires one year of related experience and a valid driver's license, with CDL-A to be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

One year of related work experience or equivalent.
Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.
Physical demands: lift up to 50 lbs; work outdoors and in traffic environments.

Responsibilities

Operate a tractor-mounted rotary ditching machine and backhoe to clean roadside drainage ditches.
Operate a motor grader for ditching, shoulder work, driveway installation, or snow/ice removal.
Operate tandem and single axle dump trucks with trailers for hauling material and transporting equipment.
Assist with safety practices, flagging operations, and vehicle safety on job sites.
Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to set up maintenance work zones per SCDOT manuals.
Patch potholes and remove debris; assist with clearing fallen trees and hazards.
Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
