Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking workers for winter road maintenance, with standby for call-in seasonal work to support snow removal and storm prep.

You will operate medium and heavy equipment (dump trucks, front-end loaders, motor graders, backhoes, tractors) and must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work 12-hour shifts, day or night. A valid CDL and DOT medical card are required, along with safety shoes.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor including standing, bending, and heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Capable of working day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
• Must have CDL and DOT medical card and maintain thereafter.
• Safety shoes are required to ensure safe operation of equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Emergency operations: assist with snow/ice clearing and apply abrasives and chemicals.
• Manual labor: install tire chains, plow and blades, debris removal.
• Preventative maintenance on equipment used during winter operations.
• Operate medium and heavy equipment as trained to support road maintenance.
