Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia Careers is seeking qualified applicants for part-time snow removal and emergency operation support with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Responsibilities include clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals, and responding to weather emergencies as needed.

Candidates must be able to operate medium and heavy equipment, perform heavy manual labor, and work day or night shifts.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Possession of CDL and DOT medical card and ability to maintain thereafter.
• Ability to work day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, night, and/or day, when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Assist and support operations for clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals on road surfaces.
• Manual Labor: Perform heavy manual labor such as installing tire chains, plow, and blades, and perform debris removal.
