Key Responsibilities
- Drive a rear-load, split body, curotto, or automated-side load truck along designated routes to collect waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
- Assist helper(s) in loading solid waste into the truck hopper as route conditions require.
- Utilize helpers while backing up according to company policy.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, safety compliance, and quality standards while on route.
- Operate mechanical packer to load and compact trash into the truck body.
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections; complete and submit vehicle condition reports.
- Interact courteously with customers and the public; report issues to supervisors.
- Keep the truck and surrounding area clean during and after operations.
- Maintain and submit required logs and reports.
- Safely maneuver the truck using mirrors and GPS.
- Follow safe operating practices and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- At least 21 years old.
- Minimum one year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
- Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria.
- Ability to safely operate the truck and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance.
- Ability to maneuver the truck in tight spaces using mirrors.
- Ability to recognize unacceptable waste materials.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend documents and maps.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform various tasks.
- Visual acuity and ability to work in loud conditions.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to loud noise, weather conditions, chemicals, and traffic.
- Primarily outdoor work, often away from the branch location.
