Job summary

FedEx Freight in Des Plaines, IL is seeking a tractor-trailer operator. You will develop driving skills and perform delivery and pickup between service centers, with occasional forklift and dock duties as needed.

Starting wage is $26.84 per hour, with a pay range of $26.84–$31.97. The role requires a Class A CDL or CLP, clean MVR, DOT compliance, and the ability to lift heavy loads and work independently or as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulations under FMCSA section 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles/straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, problems, etc.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Where operationally necessary, perform city driver or freight handler duties.
• Freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, hand truck.
• Chain vehicle tires.
• Comply with laws and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
