Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a Class A CDL driver in Indianapolis to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/straight trucks, and perform dock duties. Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, freight handling, securing loads, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• Class A CDL or commercial learner permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• DOT regulatory requirements under FMC 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and perform heavy-duty dock tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies as required.
• Handle freight using motorized/manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack).
• Secure freight with pallets, straps, and rope inside trailers.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain records.
• Comply with Hazardous Materials regulations per DOT and company policies.
• Communicate with Dispatch on delays or equipment issues.
• Deliver internal/external customer service and determine pick-up/delivery needs.
• Provide leads to sales for new opportunities if applicable.
• Perform road driver or freight handler duties when needed.
• Chain vehicle tires when required.
• Follow all laws/regulations and company procedures.
