Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a driver with a Class A CDL to operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles or straight trucks, and to perform non-driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work. Starting pay is $25.64 per hour, with a pay range listed as $25.64–$30.55 per hour.

Responsibilities include pre-trip inspections, securing freight, documenting reports, customer communication, and potential leadership in safety and hazmat compliance.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the FMC regulations.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds several times a day.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• WORKING CONDITIONS: Drive day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather; exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes; hazardous materials; hours may vary.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer, including doubles and/or straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Perform freight handling using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding.
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, and equipment problems.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs.
• Ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales.
• Where needed, perform road driver or freight handler duties.
• Chain vehicle tires.
• Follow all laws, regulations, and company policies.
