Job summary

FedEx Freight in Kentucky is seeking a driver/operator trainee to gain proficiency in operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and straight trucks, while performing dock and forklift duties. Key tasks include thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, hooking/unhooking trailers, freight handling, securing loads, and completing required paperwork.

You will also communicate with Dispatch and assist customers with pick-up or delivery needs.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A or CLP before entering job
• Clean MVR per hiring standards
• DOT regulations knowledge (FMC 391)
• Ability to count and perform basic math
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds repeatedly
• Ability to sit, bend, twist, squat
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer including doubles/straight trucks
• Pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections
• Hook up trailers and converter dollies
• Freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, or hand truck
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related records
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding
• Communicate with Dispatch about delays, arrivals, or equipment problems
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Coordinate with customers for pick-up/delivery needs
• Solicit additional business and refer leads to sales
• Occasionally perform road driver or freight handler duties
• Chain tires on vehicles as required
• Comply with laws and company policies
• Perform other duties as required
