Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is hiring a Combination Driver/Dockworker to load, unload and deliver freight between service centers and customer sites. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and timely service, with a strong emphasis on forklift operation, quality loading, and DOT compliance.

The position requires a Class A CDL with hazmat endorsements, a valid driving record, and 12 months tractor-trailer experience or completion of the OD Driver Training program.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read, write and speak English; basic math skills required.
• Must possess a valid Class A CDL with double/triple trailers, tanker, and hazmat endorsements.
• Acceptable motor vehicle record.
• 12 months of tractor-trailer driving experience or completed OD driver training.
• Ability to operate a handheld computer and follow instructions via radio/phone.
• Good oral communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Must meet medical and DOT requirements and pass drug/alcohol tests.
• Must be at least 22 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using forklift, pallet jack or manually.
• Deliver freight between service centers and customer facilities.
• Load and unload freight on trailers in a safe, efficient manner.
• Operate vehicle safely and in compliance with DOT regulations.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms; ensure secure cargo and proper documentation.
• Maintain safety standards and support warehouse and material handling operations.
