Job summary

160 Driving Academy is seeking a CDL Class A Instructor Trainer to teach students from pre-trip inspections to passing the CDL exam, both in yard and behind the wheel. You’ll work with a team of instructors, with occasional regional yard coverage and yard upkeep responsibilities.

The role emphasizes hands-on instruction, reliability, and adherence to curriculum, with a path toward advancing to lead instructor or regional roles. Local, home-every-night shifts are typical.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL with at least 24 months of verifiable Class A tractor-trailer driving experience.
• Must meet state instructor licensing requirements where applicable.
• Residence in the applying state or relocation plan.
• Ability to pass DOT physical and DOT-mandated drug/alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Teach Class A driving skills with hands-on training in outdoor yards on automatic and manual transmissions.
• Guide students through pre-trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and on-road driving.
• Prepare students to pass CDL testing standards on the first attempt.
• Track student attendance and progress; provide additional support when needed.
• Maintain training records, evaluations, and documentation.
• Report all incidents and accidents to lead and corporate in a timely manner.
• Work with fellow instructors to deliver a consistent student experience and follow curriculum.
• Keep the yard and buildings clean and presentable.
• Cover for other instructors at nearby regional yards in emergencies.
• 90-day probationary period at hire.
• Assist with transferring trucks to repair operations and neighboring yards.
