Job summary

City of Winston-Salem is seeking a semi-skilled maintenance supervisor to oversee field operations and lead crews in routine municipal tasks. The role includes supervising and instructing workers, assigning duties, and ensuring safe, efficient work in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities include vehicle maintenance, keeping records, preparing reports, and assisting with staff evaluations and disciplinary actions. A valid Class B CDL is required upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; substantial experience in semi-skilled maintenance and motorized vehicle operation.
• Ability to supervise unskilled/semi-skilled workers and crews.
• Knowledge of safety practices for operating trucks and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers and operators.
• Oversee large crews in collection of brush, leaves and bulky items.
• Provide instruction, assign tasks, inspect progress, and adjust as needed.
• Perform minor vehicle and equipment repairs in the field.
• Maintain vehicle records and requisition parts and materials.
• Prepare reports and train staff; assist with evaluations and disciplinary actions.
