American Driver LLC in Ohio offers a CDL-A driving role designed to keep you near home. Training pays $850 a week, then you operate solo with a dedicated planner, running from Ohio to Ohio.

Routes cover Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Indiana and Kentucky, with regular runs between Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Erie, Louisville and Indianapolis. Weekly mileage runs around 1,800 miles and additional bonuses for short loads and stops.

Qualificações

• New drivers with a valid CDL-A, 21 or older.
• Completed CDL-A truck driving school of at least 120 hours.
• No DUI or DWI in 10 years; no more than 2 moving violations in 2 years.
• DOT physical and hair and urine drug test.

Responsabilidades

• Train 3–5 weeks with a mentor and then drive solo.
• Operate loads with a dedicated planner and routes primarily in OH, PA, IN, KY.
• Earn training pay, mileage pay and performance bonuses while building experience.

Most first jobs out of CDL school keep you gone for weeks. This one is built around home. Loads go out from Ohio and come back to Ohio, so you are never far from the house, and drivers take their reset at home. The fleet hires only new drivers, and it hires from Butler, Cranberry and the Pittsburgh area. You train at $850 a week, then run solo with your own dedicated planner.

What you earn

• Training: $850 a week
• Solo mileage pay starts at $0.56 per mile
• Solo average: $1,200 to $1,400 a week
• About 1,800 miles a week
• $40 extra on every load under 100 miles
• $15 per extra stop and a performance bonus
• $1,000 weekly guarantee for your first 3 months solo

Where you run

Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Indiana and Kentucky, with regular runs between Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Erie, Louisville and Indianapolis. Freight is plentiful, and short hauls pay extra. Winter brings cold-weather driving, and your planner plans with it in mind.

How you learn

You train 3 to 5 weeks, about 200 to 250 hours, with an experienced mentor. You learn on the same kind of freight you will run alone: drop and hook, preloaded trailers and live loads. When your mentor signs you off, you get your own truck.

Day one

Orientation lasts two days or less and pays $300 once you are hired. If you travel by bus, your one-way ticket is reimbursed with a receipt.

Truck life

• Late-model tractors, about 1.5 years old on average
• Automatic and 10-speed transmissions
• One approved dog up to 40 pounds once training is finished
• Adult rider program for solo drivers
