Job summary

Big Wheels LLC, part of Universal Logistics, is hiring drivers in the Detroit area to operate Class A trucks and transport freight. Expect pre/post-trip inspections, adherence to DOT rules, and close communication with dispatch while maintaining schedules.

Compensation includes per-move/mileage pay with home daily schedules and potential weekend work. Benefits after probation include health, dental & vision, PTO, and paid holidays.

Qualifications

• Age 21+ required.
• Class A CDL held and valid.
• 6 months tractor-trailer experience in the last year.

Responsibilities

• Operate a Class A commercial vehicle to transport freight to and from customer locations.
• Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer.
• Follow all DOT regulations, safety procedures, and company policies.
• Secure and handle freight properly (may include loading/unloading).
• Maintain accurate logs and delivery records.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and team members.
• Report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly.
• Adhere to schedules while maintaining safe driving practices.

• Maintain accurate electronic or paper logs, delivery records, and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members.
• Report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly.
• Adhere to schedules while practicing safe driving habits at all times.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Class A CDL
• 6 months of verifiable tractor trailer experience in the last year
• Clean driving record with proven safe-driving history
• No DUI/OWI in the last 5 years
• No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years
• No more than 2 preventable accidents in the last 3 years
• Strong time management & communication skills
