Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan seeks a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist Registered Nurse to drive documentation quality and revenue integrity across the network.

You will partner with physicians, nursing staff, and coding teams to query, educate, and implement CDI best practices, ensuring accurate MS-DRG reimbursement and compliance. Requires RN license and 5+ years acute care; CDI tools experience preferred; on-site, full-time.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse License in the state of practice.
• Minimum 5 years of acute hospital care experience.
• Experience with CDI software tools (3M 360, JATA, ChartWise, other).
• Knowledge of coding/documentation and billing regulations for commercial insurance, Medicaid and Medicare (APR-DRG, MS-DRG).
• Experience in Utilization Management/Case Management, Critical Care, and patient outcomes/quality management preferred.
• Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) and AC DIS membership are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accuracy and completeness of clinical information used for outcomes and reporting.
• Perform daily chart reviews to query documentation and capture accurate reimbursement.
• Educate care teams on documentation needs, guidelines, and pay-for-performance requirements.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, coders, and HIM to resolve documentation issues.
• Direct others toward objectives that improve documentation and reimbursement quality.
• Articulate the CDI program to clinical staff and educate on MS-DRG and quality measures.
