Services, repairs, and overhauls aircraft to ensure airworthiness. Repairs include replacing and rebuilding aircraft structures of moderate difficulty, such as wings, fuselage, surface controls, and functional components including rigging, plumbing, and hydraulic units utilizing hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet guns, and drills. Reads and interprets manufacturer's publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Inspects airframe components for fluid leaks, cracks, and other damage. Troubleshoot, remove, replace, and repair aircraft structural and hydraulic system components. Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems. As required by site operations and management, be certified as a CDI. Correctly prioritizes workload to maintain schedules and maintenance standards on assigned projects.
The candidate must have completed the Navy Class "C" school in airframe and hydraulic repair for the specific T/M/S aircraft billet, or USMC/USCG equivalent (Five years organizational level experience on the applicable T/M/S aircraft may substitute for the Class "C" school). Must have at least five (5) years experience in organizational-level airframes/hydraulics maintenance in similar T/M/S aircraft. Three (3) years experience in the specific TIM required/Series preferred aircraft is required, with two (2) of those years within the last three years being strongly preferred. Engine turn qualified and Auxiliary Power Unit designated personnel shall be at a minimum, level II mechanics. May need to become Plane Captain certified by an approved process for each applicable T/M/S. Must hold a valid driver's license and be eligible for and maintain a secret level clearance.
The candidate is required to maintain and service the applicable aircraft airframe and hydraulic systems/components as needed in support of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 31 RDT&E Programs, following applicable publications and instructions.
