Job summary

Construction Material Testing is seeking a Welding Inspector I to work under a Certified Welding Inspector on structural steel and pipe welding. You will verify fit-up, inspect welds, and help maintain the weld map and logs.

The role emphasizes attention to code compliance (AWS D1.1 or governing code), coordination of NDT, and progression toward CWI certification; travel to active job sites is required and sponsorship for the CWI exam is provided.

Qualifications

• AWS CAWI certification or eligible to sit for the CWI exam.
• 3+ years welding or welding inspection experience.
• Ability to read structural drawings and weld symbols.
• Physically able to work at height and in confined spaces.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be able to be present on active job sites.

Responsibilities

• Verify joint fit-up, preheat, and WPS compliance before and during welding.
• Perform visual weld inspection under CWI supervision to applicable codes.
• Confirm welder qualifications, consumable control, and equipment calibration records.
• Maintain weld maps, inspection logs, and daily reports.
• Flag rejectable indications for CWI disposition.
• Coordinate NDT (UT, MT, PT) with the NDT technician and record results.
