Job summary

5rcattle seeks an Assistant Cattle Department Manager to assist the Cattle Department Manager in supervising team activities in the feedlot, coordinating care and movement of livestock, and ensuring regulatory and safety compliance.

The role supports budget management, inventory control, and process improvements, while mentoring staff and maintaining thorough records. A undergraduate degree and knowledge of cattle handling are preferred.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or related experience.
• Animal husbandry skills; knowledge of cattle breeds.
• Knowledge of Word Processing, Spreadsheet, and Database software.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
• Ability to perform basic math including fractions, percentages, and ratios.

Responsibilities

• Supervises 2-3 subordinate supervisors and 15-20 workers; assists in direction and evaluation.
• Assigns workers to receive, weigh, inspect, and transfer livestock.
• Collaborates with veterinarian to address disease control and corrective actions.
• Maintains records and monitors adherence to safety and withdrawal procedures.
• Manages department supplies and inventories; assists in budget development.
• Prepares and communicates safety trainings; enforces safety policies.
