Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor's Heart Catheterization Lab is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Cath Lab team. This full-time role requires a BSN within five years of hire, Michigan RN license, and BLS.

You will provide comprehensive cardiovascular care in a state-of-the-art hybrid OR environment, with on-call coverage and varied shifts. You will perform patient assessments, develop and revise care plans, educate patients and families, and collaborate with cardiology, EP and nursing staff to

  • BSN degree with plan to obtain BSN within 5 years from hire.
  • Current Michigan RN license and BLS certification.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular nursing care and cath lab processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and develop individualized care plans for cath/EP procedures.
  • Implement, evaluate and revise plans using evidence-based interventions.
  • Educate patients and families; coordinate care with cardiology and nursing staff.
  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation and ensure patient safety during procedures.

About the Department
Heart Catheterization and Electrophysiology (EP) Lab

Our state-of-the-art Heart Catheterization (Cath) and Electrophysiology (EP) Lab is dedicated to providing comprehensive cardiovascular care. We operate five advanced labs, including two dedicated EP labs, two Cath labs, and one versatile swing lab that can accommodate both types of procedures.

Hybrid OR Capabilities

Our facilities include a cutting-edge Hybrid Operating Room (OR) that allows for seamless integration of both Cath and EP procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and procedural efficiency. Our hybrid cases focus on Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Watchman device implantation, Mitral Valve Repair (MVR), and device explants.

Case Volume
  • Catheterization (Cath) Cases:We handle around 10-14 Cath cases each day, focusing on diagnostic and interventional procedures such as coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), stent placement, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurements, Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) procedures, and treatment of STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction).

Our team of highly skilled cardiologists, electrophysiologists, nurses, and technologists work collaboratively to deliver exceptional care, utilizing the latest technology and techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND LICENSURE
  • Graduation from accredited nursing program.
  • All new hires must have a BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role.
  • Current Michigan Nursing License
  • BLS
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and age specific needs
  2. Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  3. Critical thinking skills necessary to perform principal duties and responsibilities of job description.
  4. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.

What you will do:
  • View patients holistically; considers physical, psychosocial, emotional, age specific, cultural and spiritual factors. Demonstrate appropriate assessment skills for identified patient populations.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills by gathering and analyzing patient information, then responding to a patient situation.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and revise an individualized plan of care using evidenced based interventions and standards of care. Identify needs and begins to plan for care across the continuum considering patient and family preferences.
  • Identify patient and family education needs. Develop and implement teaching plans based on evidence-based practice, seeking out additional resources when necessary. Utilize teach back methodology to assure patient and family is learning effectively. Identify necessary resources to assure readiness for discharge and begins to develop plan in collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Create an environment that promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Communicate both verbal and written information (including documentation in the EMR) that is accurate, timely, concise and thorough. Effectively communicate patient status, priority goals and interventions to colleagues and other disciplines during consultation, rounds and handoffs.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
