Job Summary
Responsible for developing objectives, policies, and procedures for the purchasing of goods and services for assigned categories/vendors. Oversee purchasing programs and processes and ensure adherence to approved quality and delivery standards. Select suppliers and negotiate for category items. Determine best practices and coordinate implementation.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, And Key Accountabilities

  • Manage a designated category and associated vendors across an assigned region.
  • Maintain inventory, assist purchasing offices in managing excess and dead stock, and implement prevention controls for assigned categories/vendors.
  • Develop systems and tools to support the purchasing function. Assist in determining system settings and areas of concern.
  • Act as a liaison between the field and vendors regarding new product releases, lead times, target determination, and vendor consolidation. Maintain rapport with sales and operations groups to ensure common goals and efficient processes.
  • Review reports and trend analyses related to category-specific spending and current status versus goals. Perform global spend analysis annually for assigned category. Recommend and implement changes to achieve cost reductions and efficiencies.
  • Maintain fill rates within defined parameters for assigned categories/vendors. Monitor stock outs, identify products with fluctuating demand, and suggest alternative purchasing methods.
  • Manage hiring, training, development, and performance appraisals of associates. Oversee training for buyers and field staff to improve communication.
Nature and Scope
  • Require analysis and investigation to develop solutions.
  • Achieve planned results through decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience.
  • Manage a team of professional contributors and support staff, either directly or indirectly.
Work Environment
  • Located in a comfortable indoor setting. Unpleasant conditions are infrequent and non-objectionable.
  • Spend time standing or sitting with opportunities to move; occasional stooping or lifting of light materials (less than 8 pounds).
  • Overnight travel required 5% to 20% of the time.
Education And Experience
  • Typically requires a BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally, 7+ years of experience in a related field. Certification may be required. An advanced degree can offset less experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Focus on Concrete, Accessories, and Chemicals products.
  • 5-7+ years relevant experience in product selection, forecasting, and merchandising.
  • Strong analytical skills with financial acumen.
  • Excellent verbal, email, and presentation skills.
  • Fundamental knowledge of purchasing principles.
  • Experience managing a team, preferably remotely.
  • Industry experience in wholesale construction supplies.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
This position may be remote or hybrid based on location. Candidates in the greater Atlanta area will be asked to work two days a week at our Doraville, GA Field Support Center.
