Job summary

BJ’s Wholesale Club is seeking a Category Merchant to set strategy and drive growth for assigned categories, including product selection, vendor negotiation, promotions, and leading the merchandise team.

You will drive category profitability, develop competitive merchandise assortments, and partner with vendors to achieve financial goals. This role is hybrid with on-site days in Marlborough, MA and remote days as applicable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business or operations related field.
• 4+ years related merchandising / category management experience
• Negotiation skills and decision‑making ability
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven analytical and organizational skills
• Hybrid role: in-office Tue–Thu at Marlborough, MA; remote Mon & Fri

Responsibilities

• Responsible for performance of assigned categories including driving growth, category profitability and customer experience.
• Responsible for product selection and development of competitive merchandise assortment plans that achieve financial objectives.
• Negotiates pricing and terms with vendors.
• Builds strong relationships with the vendor community and negotiates flexibly.
• Oversees development of sales and margin plans and forecasts for assigned categories.
• Communicates merchandising strategies to cross-functional teams for timely execution.
• Connects strategies to operations and understands business goals and challenges.
• Manages price indexing and targets for assigned categories.
• Collaborates with Marketing to develop pricing, promotions and campaigns.
• Monitors merchandising performance and reacts to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks.
• Provides leadership and training to the merchandise team.
• Offers feedback and development opportunities to the team.
• Maintains credibility and responsiveness in the marketplace.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
