Job Details

A catch machine operator is responsible for working safely and ensuring animal welfare guidelines are met during the catch machine operations. The catch machine operator must perform equipment inspections; operate controls and drive catch machine inside of contract grower houses. The catch machine operator is responsible for setting up, running, monitoring, and maintaining catch machine on contract grower farms while ensuring production needs are safely met.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Machine Setup:

  • Install and align tooling (dies, moulds, cutting tools, fixtures) and set program parameters (speeds, feeds, temperatures, pressures) before production starts.

Operation:

  • Run the machine according to work orders, monitor performance indicators, adjust settings to maintain quality, and ensure continuous workflow.

Quality Control:

  • Inspect input and outputs while adhering to animal welfare guidelines.

Maintenance:

  • Perform routine checks, clean, calibrate, and repair minor issues.

Troubleshooting:

  • Identify and resolve operational problems, respond to alarms or defects, and stop the machine if safety or quality is at risk.
  • Notify maintenance of key issues.

Safety Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols, maintain a safe work environment, and complete required safety training.

Certifications:

  • Obtain and maintain Powered Industrial Truck Certification. This includes operation of Loader equipment as needed.

Documentation:

  • Keep activity logs, production records, and maintenance reports.

Compliance:

  • Ensuring adherence to all USDA and other governmental regulations regarding poultry handling.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read documents and operate mechanical or computer-controlled equipment.

  • Diagnose performance issues and adjust operations accordingly.

  • Quickly identify and fix defects or malfunctions.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED, with 6 months prior work experience on-the-job training; as a machine operation.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and animal welfare standards.

Ability to perform physical tasks and work in a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and fellow crew members.

Work Environment

Catch machine operators work primarily in contract grower houses and agricultural settings. The work environment includes inclement conditions; hot, humid, cold, dusty and noisy conditions.

Operators are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all company safety and biosecurity requirements.

Safety and Animal Welfare: All duties must be performed in accordance with Tyson Foods’ safety policies, animal welfare standards, and biosecurity procedures.

Biosecurity: Must not own possess, or otherwise maintain any domestic, wild, or exotic fowl to be considered. Operators will be required to sign a Biosecurity agreement to avoid any non‑commercial avian species. Examples: chickens, ducks, parakeets, parrots, etc. The company Animal Welfare Policy must be followed at all times.

Work Environment Catch crew work includes working in contract grower houses to include warm, hot, and dusty work environments.

Physical Requirements: The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days. Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Tyson Foods.
