Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a Catastrophe Risk Analyst to transform catastrophe model results and exposure data into actionable insights. You will partner with cross-functional teams to influence portfolio strategy, risk appetite, and business planning, while contributing to analytics, event response, and ongoing improvements.

In this hybrid role, you’ll report to a CAT Risk Senior Manager and work a minimum of 10 days per month from the office, ideally near Madison, WI or Boston, MA.

Qualifications

  • Experience with programming languages (R, Python) and strong analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with catastrophe risk modeling and catastrophe management software.
  • Experience applying natural catastrophe risk concepts to insurance products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform catastrophe modeling analyses using catastrophe modeling software for data input, model setup, execution, result extraction and loss analytics.
  • Develop analytical tools, reports, and data to understand impacts of natural disasters on the enterprise.
  • Monitor catastrophe peril events in the United States daily and assess potential impacts on the Enterprise business.
  • Evaluate catastrophe management software and models and explore industry best practices in earth science technologies.
  • Manipulate and investigate complex datasets to form data requirements and model specs.
  • Contribute ideas and approaches to develop the business.
