Job summary

Ryan Specialty seeks a Director I of Catastrophe Modeling to lead analytics for Central Underwriting, bridging modeling science, data engineering, and underwriting strategy. You will own technical execution of cat modeling (RMS, AIR) and the tooling, pipelines, and automation that enable fast, accurate, scalable results while building and managing the team delivering it.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive experience in catastrophe modeling, portfolio risk analytics or related data engineering.
• Deep hands-on proficiency in RMS and/or AIR Touchstone.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with Python, R, VBA, and Alteryx for automation.
• Proven ability to translate catastrophe model output into underwriting or portfolio decisions.
• Experience leading teams through real-time catastrophe event response.
• Experience coordinating portfolio rollups and external deliverables to carriers or reinsurance partners.
• Excellent communication skills presenting technical analysis to underwriting and executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build, manage, and mentor a team blending catastrophe modeling analysts and automation developers.
• Set technical roadmap for cat modeling, data engineering, and reporting tooling.
• Translate model output into underwriting guidance and appetite decisions.
• Oversee portfolio rollups and delivery to external carriers and reinsurance partners.
• Lead research into advanced analytics and evaluate vendor model updates.
• Partner with Capital Management, Pricing, Reserving, and Data Engineering to align outputs with business needs.
• Own vendor and platform strategy for RMS and AIR.
