Job summary

FBL Financial Group, Inc. in West Des Moines, IA is seeking a Catastrophe Claims Representative Inside to respond to CAT events, investigate, evaluate, and negotiate property claim assignments across homeowner, farm, and commercial lines using virtual tools.

The role requires a college degree or equivalent plus 1 year of relevant experience, strong communication, and ability to maintain on-call availability; a hybrid work arrangement is offered along with strong benefits.

Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent plus 1 year of relevant experience required.
• Experience in construction, estimating, and estimating systems involved in the handling of property claims preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to negotiate effectively and present yourself in a professional manner.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as analytical ability.
• Strong computer skills are required in order to quickly learn our multiple systems.
• Must maintain on-call availability.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language; bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to CAT storm events to investigate, evaluate, and negotiate property claims.
• Use virtual inspection tools to assess homeowner, farm, and commercial policies.
• Evaluate coverages, investigate damages, issue payments, and set reserves on homeowner, farm, and commercial policies.
• Negotiate with clients and contractors to reach fair settlements.
• Document investigations, evaluations, recommendations, and plans of action for defendable claim files.
• Seek input from property claims managers, engineers, reinsurers, legal counsel, and casualty consultants.
• During storm events review estimates from field adjusters and complete handling of the claim through conclusion.
• Develop and maintain plans with the CAT Claims Manager to improve storm claim handling performance.
• During non-storm times, assist absent property staff with supplemental and replacement cost claims.

What You’ll Do

As a Catastrophe Claims Representative Inside, you will be responsible for immediate response to CAT storm events to investigate, evaluate, and negotiate property claim assignments involving homeowner, farm, and commercial risks. In this role, you will operate from an office setting utilizing virtual tools – it is not required to physically be at catastrophic events. In this role you will also:

• Provide immediate response to handle minor to moderate storm damage claims throughout the 8 P/C states utilizing virtual inspection tools.
• Accurately evaluate coverages, investigate and evaluate damages, issue payments and set reserves on homeowner, farm, and commercial policies according to Claims Best Practices and company guidelines.
• Effectively negotiate with client/members and contractors in a professional manner to attain a fair settlement.
• Document investigations, evaluations, recommendations, and plans of action with results focused on developing a defendable claim file.
• Seek input from the property claims managers, engineers, reinsurers, legal counsel, and casualty consultants are required.
• During storm events review estimates from field adjusters, and complete handling of the claim through conclusion.
• Develop and maintain plans with the CAT Claims Manager to improve the performance of the Company’s storm claim handling process.
• During non-storm times, may assist absent property staff with handling supplemental and replacement cost claims on non-storm claims.
