Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh is hiring a Casual Patient Care Technician to join the 5 South Neurosurgical Unit. You will support direct patient care under RN direction and help with ADLs, therapies, and routine assessments.

This role involves vital signs, telemetry, EKGs, specimen collection, toileting support, and safe, clean care environments. You’ll collaborate with the healthcare team, respond to call lights, transport patients, and participate in infection control and safety practices.

Qualifications

• Experience in patient-facing care in a clinical setting.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and collaborate with RN staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT tasks: vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, and EKGs
• Assist with unit needs: responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport
• Maintain a safe, clean environment following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes promptly
• Document care and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team
• Demonstrate professionalism and seek opportunities for growth
• Respond to emergent situations and provide supervision as appropriate

Position: Casual Patient Care Technician Department: 5 South Neurosurgical Unit Location: UPMC Passavant Shifts: 36 hours per 6-week scheduling period; rotating shifts

Title and rate of pay will be determined based upon individual qualifications, experience, and education. The minimum hourly starting rates for each level are as follows:

• Care Attendant: $18.19
• Nursing Assistant: $18.59
• Patient Care Technician: $18.99
• Patient Care Technician, Senior: $19.19

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including assisting with ADLs, procedures, and therapies
• Perform core PCT responsibilities, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, specimen collection, bladder scans, EKGs, and basic dressings
• Assist with unit and patient needs (e.g., responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring)
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols
• Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly
• Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed
• Support unit operations by stocking supplies and assisting with department activities
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care
• Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, supporting team initiatives, and seeking opportunities for growth and development
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or assistance as appropriate.
