Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Business training preferred, including typing and filing.
• Familiarity with anatomical and medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answers telephone with appropriate greeting stating the department name and identifying oneself. Faxes information using copier and RIS/CVIS as applicable. Makes appointment reminders calls and transfers calls as needed.
• Verifies patient identification with at least 2 identifiers. Prepares registration paperwork and wrist bands. Enters orders for x-ray exams and echocardiograms and contacts physicians for orders when not available.
• Collects co-payments per policy and protocol using proper verbiage.
• Places orders for film and CD printing, verifies CDs, and mails exams as needed.
• Provides support to radiologist and cardiologist by obtaining information requested and forwarding results; manages stat exams.
• Uses PACS or CVIS to obtain reports and exam information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Casual Imaging Support Specialist!

The Imaging Support Specialist plays a key role in providing clerical support to the Imaging Services Department.

In this role, the Imaging Support Specialist will provide essential administrative and clerical support to help keep the department organized and running smoothly. They can expect to assist with communication, documentation, patient coordination, and other day-to-day tasks that support efficient workflows and allow the clinical team to focus on patient care.

The casual schedule will work mainly daylight hours, with shift times being 7:30 A.M.to 4 P.M., 8 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., or 9 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. This position also includes rotating Saturday coverage.

Responsibilities:

• Answers telephone with appropriate greeting stating the name of the department and identifying oneself. Faxes information both on the copier and through the RIS/CVIS if applicable. Conducts appointment reminders calls in a pleasant and courteous manner. Transfers calls to the appropriate department or person and documents and conveys messages as needed.

• Verifies patient identification using at least 2 patient identifiers. Places correct wrist band on patient. Use RIS or CVIS if applicable to verify the correct input of ordering physician and location and correct exam ordered. Confirms accurate visit number is populated for that day of service. Arrives patient uses the tracking screen. Prepares registration paperwork and wrist bands for the follow day. Enters accurate orders for x-ray exams and echocardiograms. Contacts physician offices for orders when not available at the time of reception.

• Uses proper verbiage established to collect co-payment per policy and protocol.

• Places orders for film and CD printing of exams. Documents film sign-outs in RIS/CVIS if applicable. Verifies CDs are burnt appropriately for distributing to patients. Checks patient identification when releasing films or CDs. Obtains the patient release and packages exams that need to be mailed. Downloads CDs from outside facilities.

• Provides support to the radiologist and cardiologist by calling preliminary reports or obtaining information requested by the radiologist and/or Cardiologist if applicable. Manages stat exams by obtaining report and forwarding or calling the results to the appropriate physician.

• Uses PACS or CVIS if applicable to obtain both reports and exam information.

• Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
