Job summary

Boom is building supersonic jet engines, and this casting unit role is hands-on from day one. You’ll participate in commissioning, write the first melt procedures, and lead the hands-on portion of the first pour with accountable ownership.

You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers, review equipment specs and layouts, and ensure safety while delivering high-quality parts on schedule.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on foundry or melt shop experience.
  • High-melt alloy experience in nickel/cobalt superalloys, steels, or titanium.
  • Strong mechanical craft: tools, rigging, alignment, assembly.
  • Fluency with furnace utilities: power, cooling water, compressed air, vacuum, inert gas.
  • Deep molten-metal safety knowledge, especially water/metal hazard.
  • Experience installing, rebuilding, or commissioning furnace or casting equipment.
  • Proven ability to communicate with engineers and technicians; robust documentation habits.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the buildout of Boom's casting unit from concept to first heat.
  • Lead design decisions on crucible, preheat, pour practice, and moisture control.
  • Rig and set equipment; run utility tie-ins with facilities.
  • Own safety foresight; specify interlocks and containment for the cell.
  • Write and validate melt and pour procedures and maintenance plans.
  • Execute melt and pour operations as the unit comes online.
  • Collaborate with engineers to flag issues and push for sound decisions.
