About The Job

Looking for a friendly, reliable, flexible, customer-service-minded person with some food service experience. The role will primarily be based in our Evanston restaurant (mainly to-go currently, as the full restaurant is under construction), with potential shifts on our food truck and catering events. This is a part-time position requiring evening and weekend availability, with the possibility to transition to full-time in the future.

We treat barbecue with reverence, focusing on the details: the meat-to-bone ratio on our ribs, the creaminess of our mac and cheese, and the spices in Chef Carter’s signature sauce.

Job Responsibilities

1. Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers and co-workers.
2. Prepare and open the restaurant for lunch service and close after dinner service.
3. Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone; double-check orders with the kitchen before serving.
4. Communicate effectively with customers, kitchen staff, and colleagues.
5. Ensure customer satisfaction and provide professional support.
6. Address and resolve customer issues and complaints.
7. Perform side work such as cleaning tables and refilling sauce cups.
8. Learn about all products and services to answer customer questions accurately.
9. Provide feedback to the team about customer experiences and other observations.

Requirements

• Remain calm and respectful under stress and when dealing with upset customers.
• Able to walk and stand for most of the shift.
• Comfortable using a computer and POS system.
• Experience in customer support roles.
• Quick problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multitask and stay organized.
• Work well in a team with diverse personalities.
• Prior food service experience is preferred.
• Having a driver’s license is a plus.
• Availability during evenings and weekends.
• Valid food handler and BASSET alcohol service certificates are required within 30 days of employment.

Job Details

• Type: Part-time, hourly.
• Pay: $19-22+ per hour, including pooled revenue share of $4-6 per hour; base rate starts at $15.
• Benefits: Staff meals, dining and catering discounts, accrued paid leave, and sick leave.
