Food Clerk-Cashier

Part Time – Hourly

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and politely ring out all customers
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash register, scanner, and scale
• Clean register area by sweeping floors, cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales
• Prevent loss of money and merchandise through careful handling, accurate pricing, and proper use of store procedures for coupons, WIC, vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards
• Ensure safety of self, customers, and co-workers by following store safety rules and reporting hazards
• Bag customer purchases efficiently and correctly
• Understand operation, safety, and restraints of electronic cash register, scanner, scale, and intercom system
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, including substituting for absent workers and additional duties to serve customers

Supervision: Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills
• Basic mathematics skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in related field preferred

Specific Tasks

• Stand for at least 4 hours
• Lift up to 40 lbs from 6 inches to 48 inches
• Move up to 40 lbs up to 15 feet
• Pick up items from floor, case, shelf, or cart
• Retrieve merchandise from high shelves (~84 inches)
• Bend and twist at the waist during cleaning and loading/unloading

Work Environment

Indoor setting with temperature and humidity transitions due to store opening and closing. All employees must adhere to company policies and legal requirements. Responsibilities and duties may vary reasonably.
