KTA Downtown Hilo 1 in Hilo, HI is hiring for a part-time cashier position. You’ll handle checkout, payments, and refunds with accuracy and courteous service.

Core Responsibilities

Ensure customer satisfaction by promptly and accurately checking out each shopper at the register while maintaining full accountability for all payment and refund transactions.

• Register Checkout & Payment Handling: Accurately and quickly scan, weigh, or ring up purchases. Collect correct payments, make accurate change, and account for cash, checks, coupons (e.g., Manufacturer, WIC), vouchers, and refund transactions. Count and balance cash till after each shift.
• Customer Service & Store Promotions: Promptly and efficiently greet, assist, and thank all shoppers with local hospitality. Study, explain, and promote store specials, weekly ads, and promotions.
• Checkout & Department Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness at the checkstands and accountability rooms. Refill checkout supplies, replace/price-check items, answer/transfer phone calls, and assist Courtesy Clerks with bagging groceries as needed.
• Team & Operations Support: Use the PA system to request price checks or promote store items, and assist other departments with job duties when instructed.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

• Environment: Continuously perform duties indoors in an air-conditioned environment that may be noisy, dusty, or dirty with high customer and co-worker volume.
• Physical Effort: Continuously stand, reach, handle, and use fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to register items and collect payments. Frequently push, pull, lift, and carry up to 40 lbs when assisting customers with grocery bags or carts. Occasionally walk and climb stairways to retrieve/replace till drawers or customer items. Seldom bend/crouch to access bottom cart shelves or perform cleaning duties.
• Equipment Use: Continuously use cash registers, scanners, conveyor belts, till drawers, and cash. Frequently use paper, plastic, or reusable bags, scissors, tape dispensers, telephones, and PA systems. Occasionally use adding machines and shopping carts. Seldom use price guns, brooms, dustpans, or ladders.
• Safety: Continuously wear a wrist support brace while performing job duties.

Qualifications: What You Bring

• Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age to ring up alcohol sales.
• Skills & Knowledge: Strong basic math skills to calculate and return correct change. Good organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills. Ability to understand scanning concepts, learn product codes/locations, and work under minimal supervision. Prior cashier experience is helpful.
• Work Habits: Cheerful, service-oriented, honest, and trustworthy demeanor. Detail-oriented, punctual, focused on tasks, and able to remain calm and professional under pressure or with frequent interruptions.
• Availability: General work availability 7 days a week and holidays, typically between 6:45 AM and 9:30 PM.
