Core Responsibilities

• Drive the operational and financial success of our Bakery Department by leading a high-performing team, maintaining product excellence, and delivering local hospitality to our island shoppers.
• Leadership & Team Development: Recruit, interview, hire, and train department associates. Foster personal growth and develop future leaders through regular coaching, performance evaluations, delegation, and clear accountability. Set, monitor, and consistently enforce high work standards.
• Department Operations & Profitability: Manage day-to-day bakery operations, including production scheduling, staffing, and meal/rest break management. Maximize sales and profitability by reviewing P&L statements, sales/manpower reports, and supplier invoices while optimizing inventory, product margin, and shrink reduction.
• Merchandising, Quality & Production Standards: Ensure proper panning, baking, packaging, labeling, and displaying of fresh bakery products. Oversee showcase presentation, inventory rotation, sell-by date management, special cake order fulfillment, and C.O.O.L./Department of Health compliance.
• Safety & Facility Management: Maintain all bakery equipment, enforce strict food safety and sanitation protocols, and resolve associate or customer concerns immediately with tact and professionalism.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

• Environment: Continuously perform duties in an air-conditioned building with high customer/co-worker volume. Frequently work in bakery prep and production rooms. Periodically exposed to high heat near baking ovens, cold temperatures inside walk-in chillers/freezers, and wet conditions during cleaning.
• Physical Effort: Continuously stand, walk, handle, and adapt to fast-paced production environments. Frequently bend, squat, stoop, kneel, and reach to inspect equipment, baking racks, and showcases. Pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs and lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.
• Equipment Use: Hair restraints and slip-resistant footwear required. Operate or oversee the use of bread slicers, stretch wrappers, commercial ovens, stoves, pastry fillers, electric mixers, microwaves, stock wagons, scales, point-of-sale computers, and scheduling software.
• Safety: Continuously wear a back support belt when performing job duties and enforce company security and safety policies.

Qualifications: What You Bring

• Experience & Industry Knowledge: Hands-on bakery operational experience and strong knowledge of commercial baking, decorating, product rotation, and food safety guidelines. Prior supervisory or management experience in grocery or retail bakery preferred.
• Business Acumen & Technical Skills: solid understanding of retail business operations, financial reports (profit and loss), labor scheduling, and inventory control. Proficiency with computer applications, Microsoft Office, or retail software.
• Leadership & Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively mentor team members, handle vendor relationships, and interface with store management. Ability to remain calm, exercise good judgment, and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Age & License Restrictions: Must be at least 18 years of age to operate or clean commercial ovens, stoves, bread slicers, and power-driven equipment.
• Availability: Flexible schedule required, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays to support store operations.
