Description

Provides customer service by receiving and recording cash and charge payments for goods and services provided by the store.

Essential Functions/Duties

1. Greet customers entering the store.
2. Answer customer questions and provide information on merchandise.
3. Establish or identify prices of goods, services, and tabulate bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical price scanners.
4. Compute and record totals of transactions.
5. Receive payment by cash, check, credit card, voucher, or automatic debit.
6. Validate check payments by requesting driver's license information.
7. Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.
8. Bag or box merchandise for customers.
9. Offer carry-out service at the completion of transactions.
10. Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure accuracy and adequate change.
11. Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas.
12. Process merchandise returns and exchanges.
13. Use paging system to request assistance.
14. Resolve customer complaints courteously and involve supervisor when necessary.
15. Sort, count, and wrap currency and coins.
16. Weigh items sold by weight to determine prices.
17. Recommend accessory items or related merchandise when appropriate.
18. Assist in investigations to resolve register or transaction discrepancies.
19. Assist in stocking shelves and marking prices.
20. Answer telephone inquiries.
21. Perform other duties as assigned by store management.

Requirements

Skills/Experience: Proven customer service experience. Ability to perform calculations, correct entries, and use computer systems. Effective communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Education/Certification: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred but not required.

Other Requirements: Ability to stand for most of the shift and lift up to 50 pounds.
