Job summary

Met Council is seeking a Caseworker to ensure tenants receive support and resources to maintain independent living and well-being. You will interview tenants, assess needs, and connect residents with community services, while ensuring compliance with housing program regulations.

The role includes facilitating workshops, documenting progress, and advocating for tenants in a dynamic, urban environment across New York City. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for diverse populations.

Qualifications

• Associate or BS degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in providing services to former alcoholics and drug addicts.
• Must have knowledge of Supportive Housing.

Responsibilities

• Complete intake assessments for all new tenants and ensure all required documentation is accurately completed.
• Assess and evaluate tenant needs in accordance with HRA requirements and program guidelines.
• Provide information, referrals, and linkages to community resources and self-help agencies.
• Facilitate weekly workshops and group activities to promote tenant independence.
• Advocate on behalf of tenants and provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Complete monthly and quarterly progress notes, case documentation, and program reports.
• Participate in tenant meetings and interdisciplinary team sessions as required.
• Encourage tenant engagement by linking residents to activities and community resources.

Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence program, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary:

The Caseworker ensures that tenants receive the appropriate level of support, resources, and social services necessary to maintain independent living and overall well-being. The Caseworker conducts tenant interviews, assesses individual needs, and connects residents with appropriate community resources and service providers. The caseworker candidate is responsible for helping tenants navigate maintaining a safe and sanitary living environment while promoting stability and self-sufficiency. The Caseworker also ensures compliance with all applicable city, state, and supportive housing program regulations, policies, and guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Complete intake assessments for all new tenants and ensure all required documentation is accurately completed.
• Assess and evaluate tenant needs in accordance with Housing Resources Administration (HRA) requirements and program guidelines.
• Provide information, referrals, and linkages to appropriate community resources and self-help agencies, including detoxification facilities, substance abuse treatment programs, relapse prevention and recovery services, medical providers, Social Security offices, and HRA services.
• Facilitate weekly workshops and group activities designed to promote tenant independence, self-sufficiency, personal growth, and self-esteem.
• Advocate on behalf of tenants and provide crisis intervention services as needed to address immediate concerns and support stability.
• Complete all required monthly and quarterly progress notes, case documentation, and program reports in a timely and accurate manner.
• Participate in individual tenant meetings, conferences, interdisciplinary team meetings, and formal supervisory sessions as required.
• Encourage tenant engagement and community integration by linking residents to recreational, social, educational, and wellness activities, walks, community events, and other resources that promote quality of life.

Physical Demands:

• Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and foot.
• Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)
• Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-25 pounds, pushing and pulling

Compensation:

$24-$26 per hour
