Job summary

The Case Manager at Church World Service will provide direct case management and holistic support to clients facing complex challenges, including housing, healthcare, and legal assistance. Overview

The Case Manager is responsible for providing direct services and holistic support to clients experiencing complex social, economic, or personal challenges. This role involves conducting needs assessments, coordinating referrals, maintaining accurate documentation, and advocating on behalf of clients within community systems. The Case Manager ensures that each client receives trauma informed, culturally responsive, and equitable care.

Purpose

Specific to housing this role will secure initial housing for all refugees by visiting prosperities, performing home inspections, placing housing applications, and booking Airbnb or other temporary housing. Coordinate housing setups with local volunteer group to arrange for homes to be furnished with donations and other necessary supplies. Complete and submit for approval all check requests including but not limit to rent, security deposit, application fees, lease transfer fees, beds and other furniture, and household goods.

Responsibilities

Client Support & Case Management.

  • Conduct intake assessments to determine client needs, risks, and eligibility for services.
  • Develop individualized service plans with measurable goals and timelines.
  • Provide ongoing case management, monitoring progress, and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Facilitate access to housing, healthcare, employment, education, legal support, and financial assistance.
  • Offer crisis intervention and safety planning as appropriate.
  • Advocate for clients with external agencies to secure necessary resources.
  • Coordination & Referrals
  • Maintain strong working relationships with community partners, government agencies, and service providers.
  • Connect clients to internal and external programs aligned with their goals.
  • Participate in conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, and collaborative initiatives.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case files in accordance with organizational and funder requirements.
  • Track client outcomes and prepare reports for internal use and grant compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to ethical standards, program protocols, and data privacy regulations.

Program Support & Organizational Engagement

  • Contribute to program development, improvement, and evaluation.
  • Support outreach, workshops, and community education activities.
  • Participate in trainings to maintain best practices in trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and client advocacy.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, psychology, public health, or related field or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years of case management or direct service experience, preferably in a nonprofit or humanitarian setting.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, strength-based, and culturally responsive care.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage diverse caseloads and work effectively under pressure.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and social service systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and case management software.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in social work (MSW) or related field.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations (e.g., refugees, survivors of violence, those experiencing homelessness).
  • Multilingual abilities.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local social service regulations.
Special Requirements

The job will require reference checks, standard criminal background checks, and motor vehicle background checks.
