Job summary

St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, SD seeks a Carpenter Supervisor to oversee carpenters and projects, plan and install structures and fixtures, and prioritize work orders.

You will review blueprints, select materials, ensure safety and code compliance, manage tools and budgets, train staff, and report progress to the Facilities Manager. This is a non-exempt, full-time position with outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Carpentry and supervisory experience required.
• Valid SD Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Determine priorities of projects and work orders and communicate with the Facilities Manager.
• Examine blueprints or building plans to prepare layouts and determine dimensions and materials.
• Lay out floor plans and carpentry work using standard tools.
• Select and purchase materials (lumber, doors, cabinets, paneling) and inspect them for quality.
• Ensure conformance with local, state and federal codes and guidelines.
• Determine sequence of activities for fabrication, assembly and erection of structures.
• Provide progress reports to the Facilities Manager and assist with budget planning.
• Determine power and carpentry tool requirements and ensure safe operation.
• Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications.
• Oversee, manage and train carpenters in daily routines and tasks.
• Comply with safety and health requirements and perform other duties as needed.
