Overview

Electric Boat is the premier designer and builder of nuclear-powered submarines for the US Navy, experiencing a period of unprecedented growth! We are seeking individuals eager to learn and grow within our Carpentry Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines.

Job Responsibilities:

Carpenters are responsible for:

  • Installing thermal and acoustic insulation, manufacturing and installing keel blocks, installing lead and damping materials, deck tiles throughout various submarine compartments, and providing linesman services for the shipyard.
  • Constructing staging, establishing and laying out ship's reference points, and supporting the moving and launching of the submarine.
  • Working conditions may include elevated platforms and confined spaces.
  • Possessing your own basic hand tools is required.
  • Using blueprints, layout, and measurement skills to perform various tasks in submarine construction.
  • Safely operating pneumatic and electrical power tools necessary for cutting, modifying, and installing materials.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED, or 2+ years of related technical experience
  • 5+ years of carpentry-related experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance
  • Availability for all shifts

Preferred:

  • Vocational, technical colleges, apprentice programs, military, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and automotive experience are preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions.
  • Willingness to take road jobs and flexibility to work all shifts.

Physical Qualifications:

Climbing, color vision, crawling, heavy lifting, kneeling, light and medium lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, twisting.

Environmental Attributes:

Exposure to acids or alkalis, cold, dry, dusty, fumes, hot, inside, noise, oily, outside, wet conditions.
