Job summary

Alameda Health System seeks a journey-level carpenter, cabinetmaker and locksmith under general supervision to perform remodeling, cabinet making and lock work, including installation of doors, windows, and master key systems. The role covers fabrication, repairs, and maintenance of wooden fixtures, doors, and related hardware, plus inventory management and training of other workers.

Candidates should have formal locksmith training and a multi-year carpentry apprenticeship or equivalent

  • Experience installing doors/windows and maintaining master key systems.

Job description

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, to perform the work of a journey-level carpenter, cabinetmaker and locksmith. Carpenter responsibilities include various journey level carpentry work, such as remodeling, cabinet making,installation of wall coverings, sheetrock and plaster wall repairs and installation. Locksmith work includes installing, adjusting, rebuilding and replacing a variety of locks and locking devices. Establishes and maintainsmaster key systems. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE : The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

  1. Builds partitions, installs doors and windows and otherwise modifies existing building areas; painting and sheetrock work as necessary; estimates for specific jobs and orders supplies through department head as needed.
  2. Changes key and cylinder combinations in accordance with changes in master key system; duplicates keys using hand and electrically operated key cutting machines; establishes, expands, or modifies master key coding systems. Maintains central key control records and security of keys, codes, combinations, and location and possession of keys; installs, adjusts, replaces and rebuilds locks; issues keys and locks, and keeps related records; opens locks that cannot be opened by ordinary means.
  3. Directs and/or trains other workers as required.
  4. Maintains store room, materials, and tools in good condition and sharpen hand tools; makes cases, shelving, cabinets, tables, desks, counters and other wooden fixtures or furniture.
  5. Makes preparation for construction or repair jobs requiring InfectionControl containment by erecting and hanging Infection Control containment equipment; may order parts and supplies. Estimates labor and materials costs; keeps operational and work records.
  6. Orders parts and supplies. Estimates labor and material costs; keeps operational and work records; orders, installs, and adjusts doors to fit new and existing openings when required.
  7. Performs a variety of journey-level carpentry work in remodeling repairing and maintaining buildings, and other wooden structures; performs carpentry work on new construction of buildings and additions to building; may be required to do milling wood turning, and pattern work, including building forms, flat finish, stucco and patch work, erecting walls, laying floors, finishing floors and patching of roofs as necessary.
  8. Rebuild, services and performs related installation of locking equipment, including overhead closures, automatic door closures, hold backs of all kinds and electronic or mechanically secured sliding doors at detention facilities.
  9. Repairs doors, woodwork, fences, roofs, furniture and other wooden articles; repairs door and cabinet hinges; replaces glass in windows, partitions and other structures.
  10. Uses various machine and hand tools in the fabrication or modification of lock and panic hardware parts.
  11. Works from blueprints, drawings, pencil sketches, or written and oral specifications and instructions; adjusts and services related door closing and locking devices including panic hardware.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Successful completion of Formal Locksmith training.

Minimum Experience: Completion of four years apprenticeship (or equivalent) as a carpenter; OR two years of experience as a journey-level carpenter or cabinetmaker. Total six years experience required. OR Theequivalent of three years full-time journey-level locksmith experience.
