Job description

Valiant is looking for a Locksmith to join our team. You will be responsible for installs, repairs, modifications, and openings of a variety of locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, typical examples of services required to be performed by the locksmith.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Installs locking systems (e.g., doors, door hardware, closures, panic hardware, changes lock combinations, security bolts, etc.) to maintain facilities in a safe, comfortable, and operating condition.
  • Cuts new or duplicate keys for the purpose of providing a master key system and ensuring the security of facilities.
  • Repairs various items, systems, and/or components to ensure they are available and in safe working condition.
  • Inspects facilities, systems, and their components to ensure safety, identify necessary repairs, and provide an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
  • Fabricates unique locks and locking devices to meet specialized security problems within the district.
  • Diagnoses malfunctions of security systems to identify repair/replacement needs that maintain systems.
  • Performs minor repair or modifications to door and/or frame to ensure proper closing and security.
  • Re‑keys locks and changes combinations to ensure security of facilities.
  • Coordinates with administration and other trades to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Maintains tools and/or equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
  • Requests equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of required items.
  • Assists other trades personnel as required to support completion of their work activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education and Certification Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Relevant certificate from a vocational school or job training (preferred)
Required Qualifications
  • Must maintain a valid state driver license and a safe driving record.
  • Experience with a variety of lockpicking tools and key‑cutting hardware.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Employees assigned to this position must follow specific drug testing requirements, procedures, and consequences of positive alcohol or drug tests.
  • Ability to read work orders, logs, diagrams, blueprints, schematics, etc.
  • Prepare activity logs and reports according to prescribed formats.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English.
Desired Qualifications
  • Related experience in carpentry, preventative maintenance, or electrical work is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Requires the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding, and/or in tight spaces.
  • Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately when using hand tools.
