Job summary

Floyd Construction Corporation seeks a skilled carpenter/framing worker to join our on-site team. You will read basic drawings, assemble framing components, and handle drywall, doors, ceilings and cabinets under supervision, while maintaining safety and schedule.

Qualifications

• Reads a tape measure accurately (including small marks) and uses math to figure out measurements and cuts without help.
• Assembles framing components accurately, including headers, trimmers, soffits and blocking.
• Uses hand tools and power tools confidently, demonstrating improved speed and accuracy.
• Organizes materials, tools, and work areas proactively to support production flow.
• Performs routine tool and equipment maintenance and identifies issues before they cause delays.
• Maintain compliance with safety standards including OSHA 10 certification.

Responsibilities

• Read basic construction drawings and simple blueprints to understand layout and framing requirements.
• Demonstrate understanding of building codes and CQM standards.
• Perform basic concrete formwork tasks under supervision.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of standard framing methods and sequencing.
• Perform basic framing tasks independently and support more complex carpentry under guidance.

Technical skills

• Measures, marks, and cut materials into specified measurements, using required carpentry tools with minimal supervision
• Reads a tape measure accurately (including small marks) and uses math to figure out measurements and cuts without help.
• Assembles framing components accurately, including headers, trimmers, soffits and blocking
• Uses hand tools and power tools confidently, demonstrating improved speed and accuracy
• Organizes materials, tools, and work areas proactively to support production flow
• Performs routine tool and equipment maintenance and identifies issues before they cause delays
• Ability to select appropriate hand tools (hammers, levels, squares, etc.) and power tools (saws, drills, etc.) for specified tasks
• Ability to operate equipment (lifts, skid steers, etc.) and small equipment productively
• Understand construction materials, their uses and familiarity with building terminology

Intermediate Framing

• Reads basic construction drawings and simple blueprints to understand layout and framing requirements
• Demonstrates understanding of building codes and Construction Quality Management (CQM) standards
• Performs basic concrete formwork tasks under supervision
• Demonstrates working knowledge of standard framing methods and sequencing
• Performs basic framing tasks independently and supports more complex carpentry under guidance
• Installs framing components, drywall, doors/frames, ceilings, hardware, and cabinets with supervision, using materials such as wood, steel, metal, and composites
• Builds standard wall, floor, and roof framing using correct spacing, cuts, and fastening techniques
• Works efficiently and safely on ladders, scaffolds, and elevated surfaces

Teamwork & communication

• Work collaboratively with FCC team members and Subcontractors with differing work/personality styles
• Demonstrate independence and self-sufficiency by learning new methods, asking informed questions and completing tasks without reminders
• Maintain a positive, professional attitude and support a positive team culture
• Proactively identify and communicate jobsite needs, material shortages, safety concerns, and other issues to the supervisor
• Demonstrate jobsite and situational awareness through recognizing hazards, anticipating needs, and communicating concerns

• Understand and maintain Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) guidelines
• Understand and maintain Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)
