Job summary

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort seeks a skilled Carpenter to maintain and restore resort furniture, woodwork, and facilities. The role covers carpentry, upholstery, cabinetry, finishes, and preventative maintenance with a focus on precision and craftsmanship.

You will interpret drawings, source materials, and execute precise work using hand tools and machinery, ensuring polish and durability in every piece and space across the property.

Qualifications

  • Minimum completion of a technical program and three years of carpentry experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests, vocational students, and coworkers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Preservation of quality and character of resort spaces through expert carpentry, cabinetry, and repair.
  • Interpret construction drawings, select materials, prepare layouts, and cut/assemble wood and related materials.
  • Create finishes with stains, varnishes, lacquers to meet specifications.
  • Install and repair hardware, door closers, locks, shades; perform preventative maintenance.
  • Review work orders, determine material and labor needs, requisition supplies, complete tasks precisely.

Job description

As a Carpenter at Nemacolin, you preserve and enhance the appearance, functionality, and craftsmanship of resort facilities through skilled carpentry, furniture restoration, cabinetry, upholstery, finish work, and preventative maintenance. From precision wood construction and custom repairs to color matching and lacquer finishes, you apply technical expertise and an exacting eye for detail to maintain the quality and character of the property. Your craftsmanship ensures that every finished piece and repaired space meets established specifications and reflects a consistently polished standard.

What You Will Create

  • Preservation of the quality and character of resort spaces through expert carpentry, finish carpentry, cabinetry, furniture construction, restoration, and repair, ensuring tables, desks, chairs, cabinets, shelves, trim, and other woodwork remain functional, polished, and worthy of their surroundings
  • Transform raw materials into precise, finished craftsmanship by interpreting construction drawings and specifications, selecting appropriate materials, preparing accurate layouts, and cutting, shaping, and assembling wood and other materials using traditional hand tools and specialized woodworking equipment
  • Create finishes that bring craftsmanship to life through staining, varnishing, lacquering, surface preparation, and precise color matching, producing durable and visually consistent results that meet established specifications
  • Keep the details of the property working beautifully by installing and repairing hardware, door closers, locks, window shades, tools, equipment, and other specialty items, while completing scheduled preventative maintenance to identify and address needs before they become larger concerns
  • Bring organization and sound judgment to every project by reviewing work orders, determining material and labor requirements, requisitioning supplies, and completing assigned work with the precision, efficiency, and attention to detail expected of a skilled trades professional
  • Protect the guest experience when unexpected needs arise by responding to emergency repair situations, including after-hours calls, and using sound technical judgment, appropriate tools, equipment, and materials to restore building and equipment functionality safely and efficiently
