Qualifications

• Must have compassion and a desire to meet the nutritional needs of the frail elderly.
• Ability to read and follow a recipe.
• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and hygienic methods.
• Knowledge of low sodium and ADA diets.
• Able to cook a variety of foods.
• Familiar with cooking times and seasonings.
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff, residents, and families.
• Honest and trustworthy; handle complaints gracefully and maturely.
• Food handlers' certificate or willing to acquire within two weeks of employment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to evacuate residents if required.

Responsibilities

• Report to work on time every day and carry out duties.
• React to schedule changes in a productive manner.
• Identify safety hazards and report or correct as directed.
• Prepare and serve meals at 8 am, Noon, and 5 PM (times may change).
• Follow written menus and suggest menu items using all food groups.
• Label, date and store leftovers properly.
• Follow state food service regulations for temps, labeling, and cleaning.
• Make mealtimes enjoyable and attend to residents' needs kindly.
• Eliminate food waste.
• Check food and supply inventories weekly and submit lists timely.
• Know residents' preferences to avoid serving undesired meals.
• Daily clean kitchen, dining room, and pantry.
• Prioritize portion control and cost; minimize waste.
• Work with cleansers and cleaning fluids safely.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
