Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Patient Care Associate for the Nursing Float Pool at Lorain Hospital. This role provides direct patient care under RN supervision, supporting bedside needs, mobility, and daily activities.

You will document care, communicate changes to the nursing staff, and contribute to a patient-first environment, while upholding safety and infection control standards. Ability to work 12-hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays, is required.

Qualifications

• BLS Basic Life Support preferred at hire or must be obtained prior to direct patient care
• Completed nursing aide training or STNA/CNA certification or nurse’s aide program with clinical rotation
• 1 year of relevant clinical experience or PCA/PCT training within 6 months of hire

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care including care and comfort, vital signs, personal care and mobility assistance
• Act as liaison between patient and nurse and report changes or concerns
• Deliver high level customer service to patients and families
• Document accurately and promptly for patient care
• Participate in hand-off reporting of patient and department needs
• Perform delegated tasks once competency is validated
• Mobilize patients using safe techniques
• Encourage independence and patient engagement in activities
• Use professional communication in all interactions
