Job summary

Assisting Hands Home Care – Merrillville is seeking compassionate, reliable caregivers to provide non-medical in-home care to seniors and adults in St. John and surrounding areas in Lake & Porter Counties.

Flexible hours, supportive team, and meaningful one-on-one care make this a rewarding role. We offer flexible scheduling (PRN or part-time options), competitive pay with bi-weekly direct deposit, paid orientation, and ongoing training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Reliable, compassionate, and professional attitude.
• Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling and communication.
• Must pass a national background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, transfers)
• Provide companionship, conversation, and emotional support
• Help with light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation
• Offer medication reminders (no administration)
• Support safe mobility and ambulation (walker, wheelchair, etc.)
• Observe and report changes in client condition or behavior
• Use our mobile app to clock in/out and document care notes
• Follow infection control and safety procedures

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or GED
• Preferred: 2 year of caregiving experience (home care, assisted living, or facility)
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance
• Must pass a national background check
• Current TB test and CPR certification (or willing to obtain)
• Dependable, compassionate, and professional attitude
• Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling and communication
