Position Summary

We are hiring a Direct Support Professional in Wilmington. This entry‑level role is an essential member of a care team, helping people with intellectual, developmental disabilities, mental health, and substance use challenges identify and achieve their goals. The position is salaried at $15.00 per hour and includes all shifts. The responsibilities include advocating, coaching, and supporting clients in both home and community settings.

Responsibilities

• Promote healthy living and prevent illness and accidents.
• Encourage self‑advocacy and support individual choice and decision‑making.
• Accompany clients to work, the movies, concerts, shopping, and other community outings.
• Teach independent living skills.
• Provide transportation to appointments.
• Foster positive relationships within the community.
• Assist with personal care, bathing, and household tasks such as laundry, cleaning, and decorating.
• Document the care provided.
• Teach clients about human, legal, and civil rights.
• Connect clients with resources for education, career, and volunteer opportunities.
• Promote effective communication.
• Assist in medication administration where state law allows.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred for Tennessee).
• At least 18 years old and a valid driver’s license.
• Strong conflict‑resolution, decision‑making, and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain good attendance and confidentiality.
• Some computer skills are preferred.
• Ability to escort clients to safe and appropriate outings and commute with a vehicle, if required.
• Pre‑employment screening, including criminal background checks, reference verification, drug testing, and proof of employment history.
