Job summary

York College of Pennsylvania is seeking a Career Specialist - STEM to deliver career development services for KSEST students and coordinate co-op/internship opportunities with employers. You will promote experiential learning and serve as the primary contact for students, faculty, and employers.

You will collaborate on advising for new students, teach career readiness topics, and lead peer-mentoring initiatives, with a focus on measurable student outcomes and employer partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, higher education, human resources, STEM, or relevant field.
  • Master’s degree required; master’s degree in KSEST-related field or career development preferred
  • At least one year experience in business development, sales, and/or relationship building
  • At least one year work experience in higher education, preferred
  • Proven ability to establish and steward employer relationships, seek and secure new opportunities, and collaborate with faculty and students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills including familiarity with Windows environment; Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with Handshake, Simplicity, and Raiser’s Edge or similar platforms preferred
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends and evenings, and attend networking and employer events

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Associate Director of Employer Relations to engage in employer outreach and development to secure new co-op and internship partners for KSEST students, as well as maintain relationships with current employers (15%)
  • Facilitate STEM student co-op/internship placement with employers through organizing and hosting networking events, career fairs, and other events (25%)
  • Develop, provide, and assess career readiness services for KSEST students and alumni, including teaching career preparation courses in KSEST majors, resume reviews, mock interviews, job search strategies, and professional skills development in group workshops and individual counseling interactions. These services will be offered both in the Career Development Center and in a satellite location in KSEST. Teaching load includes three courses per academic year (fall-spring) (35%)
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team KSEST students to serve as peer mentors that provide individual career counseling, career readiness training, and event support to KSEST students, faculty, and staff (5%)
  • Support campus-wide career events and initiatives as required by the Director of Career Development (10%)
  • Assist the Academic Advising Center with new student academic advising and major exploration for KSEST programs (10%)

Job description

DESCRIPTION:

The Career Specialist - STEM is responsible for career development services and programming for students in the York College Kinsley School of Engineering, Sciences, and Technology (KSEST). This role will locate and maintain relevant employer sites, promote co-op and experiential learning opportunities to students, prepare students for the experience, and plan and administer events with employers and students. The successful candidate will serve as the primary Career Development Center contact for KSEST students, faculty, and employers, and will collaborate with the Academic Advising Center to provide advising and major exploration for new students interested in KSEST programs.

OUTCOME:

Success of KSEST students in finding and obtaining high-quality co-op/internship experiences, demonstration of KSEST students’ career readiness through measurable student learning outcomes, and development of strong relationships with employers and industry partners.
